What is a medical doctor?
The name Wahlarzt derives from the Austrian constitutional right to be able to freely choose his attending physician. The elective doctor is a registered doctor who has no contractual relationship with the health insurance of the patient in question.
How do I get to the doctor?
With your health problem, you can contact the trusted choice doctor directly. But it is also a transfer from the doctor, e.g. the family doctor, as well as another elective doctor possible.
What costs are to be expected?
According to Austrian law, every patient is entitled to reimbursement of costs. The amount depends on the fee paid by the respective health insurance company to the contract doctor for the same service, less a deductible. Not all services can be offered by the medical doctor but at cash rates.
A difference between cash rebate and fee note is usually taken over by a private insurance (depending on the contract – outpatient tariff).
How is charged?
After completion of the treatment, the doctor will provide you with a detailed fee note with all services provided. Together with the deposit receipt of the bank, the fee note will be submitted to the responsible health insurance company for reimbursement.
Further questions?
If you have any questions or problems, please contact the doctor, your health insurance or the medical association. Additional advice is also available from the Consumer Information section of the Chamber of Labor.
